“Don’t stop believing; and Bless everything no exceptions” Glee and my spiritual practice. ~ Erika Ginnis

“Don’t stop believing; and Bless everything no exceptions”

I am going to touch on three things in this post; the first one has to do with the TV show Glee. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it (and you don’t need to be for purposes this post, although it will be even more enjoyable for those that are 🙂 ) Glee is a new, very popular, show that revolves around the experiences of a High School Glee club; but it’s really about much much more.

Ok so yes here I am talking about a TV series, and one might say how can this really be spiritual. But I have to say that there are things in this show that touch my heart so deeply; one of which is a song that has become a kind of theme through the show thus far, the chorus of which goes …”Don’t stop believing, hold on to that feeling”. Sound familiar? If not feel free to scroll down to watch the YouTube video I included, and then come back up and start reading again here…

This song shows up in such poignant ways all through the season of Glee, and it speaks to many of us across a wide range of experiences. I invite you to think about what this phrase is saying.

Don’t stop believing.

Believe even in the midst of doubt; believe even though there is no visible evidence. This is the call of spirit, of our deep inner selves. It is the guiding light that shines on the path that we are walking, that shows us the turns to take.

Hold on to that feeling; yes that is the key because from that feeling springs the emotion and from that emotion springs the vibration and from that vibration springs the demonstration of your belief.

I love Glee, I love that we have these amazing individuals falling and returning to center, showing us our own path. Reminding us of times gone by or times to come; but also of what is right in front of us right now.

Every moment is an opportunity to believe, and it’s put to the test during the times when we feel lost or alone on our journey (how perfect that the song is originally by Journey, such a metaphor!). We lose who we are (we think); we think our dreams are lost too, but this is never true! Our dreams are right there waiting for us to turn back toward them and embrace them.

The next related point is something I have been thinking and writing about lately; as is shown in the season finale of Glee, the concept that you do not have to be the best to be really good, or worthwhile.

During the season Finale they (and I am assuming here that people have seen the show and I am not spoiling it for anyone) do not win the contest they are in, there are many reasons for that but they don’t in fact win. This is surprising especially for a TV show where these kids are the underdogs, I personally wanted them to win, expected them to win! However they don’t and they “didn’t even place” (as one character says) And yet, and yet… they are amazing and they are the epitome of heart and love (IMHO) and growth and evolution of self.

What I wrote previously on this idea of not having to be the BEST…

One thing that I have been struck with on this topic that I have been meditating on since it really hit home; was the idea that you do not have to be the BEST at something (ie perfect) to be good at it; or for it to be worthwhile. I started to wonder how many people are not doing/sharing their gifts and light and ideas because they judge it as “not-as-good-as” and so don’t do it at all?

If I take that to the extreme it means there can only be one who is the “good one” at anything; and even if you are the ONE that is the BEST, there is so much energy going into keeping that place because that itself is so transitory! Plus it’s totally subjective! I am not saying to stop striving to be the best you can be at something, but there is a difference between having that as something you are inspired to do; and letting it stop you from doing all kinds of different things or new things.

This becomes more important as we move into new avenues of expression that may be entirely new for everyone since we are all evolving in so many ways.

All is one, even though we are all a variety of expressions of that One. Each time you let yourself move forward become larger greater, move into new territory, it’s like one of the flowers on the HUGE tree of US opens and blooms; each time a flower bursts open it stimulates more flowers to bloom.

This whole show is about being your self no matter what someone else’s opinion is, it is about following that dream, believing in yourself. I think that is one of the reasons that the show is so powerful; there is such a strong message in it.

This same song in the finale; which echoes both the first episode, and another later episode; epitomizes the longing for a child hood dream (in this case music) and an individual deciding to follow it rather than desert it, which makes it all the more heart opening.

How do we then keep these dreams alive in us? There are many many ways, but one that I am going to mention is something that many people have suggested over the years; and that I had a very personal experience with it recently…

Last weekend I had to get up really early for a commitment on Saturday. I was having a hard time sleeping the night before; I couldn’t fall asleep in my bed so I was out on the couch. I was having one of those nights where I was increasingly aware of what time it was in relation to what time I had to get up. I had been sort of dozing but was awake again and feeling kind of stiff.  It was about 3 in the morning. I got up kind of sore from the position I had been in and was going to try the bed again. I put my arms up and stretched and was right in the middle of this huge sigh.

I was planning on it ending in a frustrated exclamation, I even kind of resigned to how I would feel after that…but oddly enough that wasn’t what happened.

It’s like I had been up in the air, ready to come down in a specific pre-chosen spot and something just shifted positions in me; and rather than landing where I thought I would, I came down somwhere entirely different and utterly unplanned.  What changed? Well in mid-sigh surprisingly I heard something within myself tell me this thought, rather than the one I had planned…

“bless everything; no exceptions”

And all of a sudden that “pre-groan” sigh, turned into a sigh of relief. It was like all at once I was a different person than I had been two seconds before. I smiled instead of groaning as I had been literally planning to do moments before, and I went to bed and slept well. It had truly been a moment of unexpected grace.

I want to note this because it was a good and powerful place to be in and return to. Since that time, all week (of course) I have been getting that message every time I turn around; in books; in spiritual practice on my iPhone; in emails 🙂 and so I know it is absolutely important to me on my path right now. This all on its own was lovely and inspiring but there is more to the story.

That Saturday I went through my day and came home and had time to read a good book and relax. I was in a pretty uplifted place and so that night I slept well with no need to watch the clock. I was still integrating this idea of “bless everything no exceptions”; which was not the most natural of spiritual practices I have encountered, given some of my own mental habits.

However what happened on Sunday was like a time release experience.

Sunday morning I woke up well rested (up early again for the second day of my budgeting commitment) and had this feeling of blessing running entirely through me. I got up and thought about various things and when I found myself slipping (by habit) into complaining in my mind or attitude; the phrase would resurface, and I would start just blessing whatever it was, no matter what I thought of it. This changed my entire morning.

Given the early start of my day I found myself driving into Hilo before many people were up (since it was a Sunday). I spent the whole drive in, blessing everything; it was like I had a long wide cloak/wave coming out from my shoulders and fanning out behind me. I was at the leading edge of the cloak/wave and I imagined just blessing everyone as they were sleeping. I was loving all these people who hadn’t started their day yet; who were still in bed or just getting up. I imagined their mornings and breakfasts and afternoon get-togethers and I blessed and blessed and blessed. It was effortless and felt so very good. I kept that feeling all through the day; every time I would feel that I was falling into worry or anything else I would move right back into blessing. It changed my entire experience.

I didn’t try to change the things I saw even if they weren’t the way I wanted them to be,  I just “blessed everything, no exceptions”; if I saw a place in my life with a hole instead of the something I wanted in it, I blessed it.  If I noticed anything at all, any person place or thing no matter what they were doing, I blessed them, I covered them with this cloak of blessing. It was so cool.

I share this story because I think we can use this for our own dreams and visions; every time we might get tempted to judge ourselves harshly (which can be so so so easy to do, at least for me sometimes) we can instead choose to “Bless everything; no exceptions”. This will entirely change our energy and therefore our experience.

We can take the example from the kids in Glee… Don’t stop believing hold on to that feeling! and Bless everything no exceptions, and see what kind of beauty we can create.

Blessings and Aloha,

Erika Ginnis

(ps this video is from mid season, not the finale, but it was a nice version of the song so I am including it here. There are as you might guess, a bagillion Youtube videos of this song in its various forms from Glee… so take your pick and enjoy!)

Chakra Q&A from Essential Mysteries

I wanted to do this post because I have been corresponding with a lovely woman this last week who asked me a great question regarding my chapter on chakras (Essential Mysteries chapter 6); in the answering of it I realized that some other people might have similar questions so I wanted to post the conversation on here for everyone’s benefit.

Good morning, Ms. Ginnis,

I have a quick question on the chapter dealing with chakras. When you mention feeling the flow of energy from front to back in the funnel vortex, do you mean: a.) up the belly, through the center of the body, then down the back along or behind the spine; or, b.) a circular motion starting at the front, moving left (or right), to the back, then to the right (or left) back to the front?

Your description of the chakras is frankly the clearest I’ve ever encountered, and I sincerely thank you for that! Most other books simply describe the chakras as spinning disks, but never mention if the are horizontal or vertical. I have a much clearer visualization now, which is most helpful. I look forward to finishing this book!

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration on this matter.

Sincerely,
Maria E. Cooper

Aloha Maria,

Thank you so much for writing!

Great question, and I hope I can give you an answer that makes some sense 🙂 talking about energy is an interesting thing, sometimes I think it would be great if I were an animation artist!

but since I am not here goes…

There are many ways energy flows, there is the way I talk about as “running energy” which is where the earth energy flows up your legs to the first chakra and down your grounding; then the cosmic energy which flow down from the cosmos into the top of your head, moves down your back channels on either side of your spine, flows also into the first chakra where it blends with some of your earth energy and then flows up the front channels of the body (that run on either side of your chakras, up and out the top of your head) branching at your 5th chakra and flowing down your arms and out your hands (becoming your healing and creative energy)..

Ok so once you have that happening you already have this flow going, and really once you have it going it is more of a general flow up the whole front of your body since the front channels are actually really close together, which means if you use your hands to feel it, and move it up the front of your body, you won’t feel two separate flows of energy you will just feel one even though there is more than “one” front channel.

So once that flow is going you can just move it/see it/feel it/know it (which ever one works best for you) and allow some of that energy, as it is flowing up and out the top of your head, to move from that flow into the front of whichever chakra you want it to flow into and let it fill the chakra up and let it simply flow out the back of the chakra where it will flow back into the rest of the energy that is already moving and find it’s way to your grounding.

The thing is, remember that you as Spirit actually already know all of this and so we don’t even have to think as much about directing it as we sometimes think. You can if you wish just get the energy flowing and then have the idea that the energy is flowing through the chakra and then flowing out the back and the energy will do it on it’s own. Having conscious awareness is so great, and enhances all of this, but at the same time it’s good to remember that there is that within you that knows all of this on some level and has been running your energy since you were born, and there can be relaxation in the midst of all of this too, it’s a balance.

There are also other aspects of running energy that we are also already doing but are not conscious of yet, and as we tune into our own energy we will begin noticing them, and I will also write more about them as I think of them too 🙂

Please let me know if this helps at all, and also if it does I would like to get permission to post your question and my answer on my blog https://consciousmetamorphosis.com// so that in case anyone else has this question they can benefit from your asking it. I can just use your first name if you like or no name at all, just let me know.

Blessings and tons of aloha to you!!!
Erika

Aloha, Erika!

Yes, your response absolutely helped me immensely! I would be more than happy for you to post this on your blog, and I don’t mind if you use any part, or all, of my name.

I look forward to speaking with you again in the future, as well as reading your other work.

Blessed be & Aloha!
Maria

Present time as a Healing Vibration. by Erika Ginnis

Present time is an energy, just as everything is an energy. It is also a concept; one that gets talked about in many different ways. It is the idea of being in the here and now. Present time is your point of power, the place where spirit and body mesh, where you can communicate with yourself as spirit most easily.

I have had people ask me how to find present time, how to know if they are in it or not.  And while there are a lot of more esoteric answers to this question, the one that makes the most sense and is the simplest is this…if you want to know where present time is…look for your body! Your body exists in the present moment; it is this great marker for present time. Find your body and you will find present time.

Now of course I can go into a long explanation about time and space and that you can have your energy spread out across all of it. I can say that there are energies in your body that are still vibrating in the past, and that there is usually some of your focus checking out the various possible futures that exist; and that at the very core of your cells and energy there are most likely vast differences in time frames. This is all accurate and I may in fact go into it at some later date; however for the purposes of this section let’s put all that to one side and put our attention on present time in a different way.

You are spirit and you are energy. You are vibration and your vibration is very fast and very bright (the nature of spirit). You are infinite and are not bound by time and space. Vibrating as rapidly as it does, your energy as spirit is not normally seen by the human eye.

You also have a body, and that body is also energy and vibration. The difference is that your body is vibrating slower than you as spirit vibrate and so it appears as solid, and it appears to have mass, therefore you can see it with your eyes. You body exists in the garden of time and space. It has a point of focus into time and space and that point of focus is called present time; what we refer to as the here and now.

I have heard it said that our bodies are bound by time and space, and while that may be true, I prefer to think of it as our bodies have their home in time and space; it is the way in which we as spirit come into this plane of existence, how we have experiences here.

All of this reminds me of the ultimate “Virtual Reality”. I am going to take a digression for illustration: I play computer games and I love movies, both of these media have been being improved upon recently; high definition and soon to be 3-D television equal more information on the screen, making it all look so much more real. Computer games have better and better graphics and hand sets where you can feel the action and microphones through which you can talk to other players.

I think about this and I think about virtual reality and things like science fiction that portray holographic reality that feels like the real thing. I am taking this digression because these things get my mind going; and where I end up is that we are mimicking in our technology what we have already accomplished as spirit.

We are already living in the most advanced virtual reality environment that we have imagined. We as spirit have these amazing “avatars” if you will, our bodies, and we mesh with them as spirit and by doing so we are able to walk and talk and smell and experience this planet in all its glory (our planet has it’s own consciousness by the way, and we are also a part of it, but I will not go into that right now…one digression at a time!).

I can only guess where we will find ourselves as our technology moves forward, I can imagine layers of reality one on another…wait, we already have that, those would be dimensions. Perhaps we are just in the process of creating another layer of our ongoing creation we call time and space.

The better we make our virtual reality the more “real” it seems, and the goal is to make it as real as possible yes? This brings me back to this idea of being spirit in a body. The more real something seems, the more we are likely to believe it is real. And while this is awesome for a computer game, it can be confusing for us as spirit. When we come into our body in any lifetime we are immersed into the energy of the time and place, and it is so wonderfully real that we sometimes forget (momentarily in the grand scheme of things) that we are not our experiences, we are the ones having the experience! We are spirit!

We as spirit want to remember who we are, and some people do this by trying to make the “reality” less real in any number of ways. This can work but it also takes us out of the “game” so to speak and we lose out on why we are here in the first place.

-Back to my digression.

It is possible when one is playing a computer game to set things up so that you are hovering above the character you are playing, or be right up close to all the action. In the case of watching a movie, we can be in a dark theatre with a huge screen and 3-D glasses on and lose ourselves in the story, or we can be watching it in the living room while snacking and talking with our friends, and having an entirely different experience. These are great analogies for how we work with our bodies.

Many people like the hovering (or more detached) perspective, which is fine, but doesn’t allow much in the way of hands on experience or influence. Some people like to be right in the mix, but then feel like they lose themselves and don’t have enough information about where they are with respect to the over all game plan and want more sense of scope. What if we could have the best of both worlds?

I, of course, believe we can absolutely have both; we can have the rich experience and remember who we are at the same time. This brings me back to present time. When we remember that we are spirit, that we are that which is having the experience; we can use our entrance into this reality, through our bodies via present time, as a way to be both the “experiencer” and the witness to the experience. It can give us that fully immersed perspective while still maintaining access to all the controls (so-to-speak) as we play this game. We open an avenue for communication and intuition (our guidance from within). Being in the here and now you have access to all the communication available from yourself as Spirit and from the wisdom of your body (as well as from the Universe as a whole); you know what is going on with you, and within you; emotionally, physically and spiritually.

As we release the clutter in our energy system and body (via things like meditation and grounding) it not only gets easier to be in present time, it becomes more pleasurable. Often the reason someone will avoid being in their body is simply because of the discomfort they feel when they run up against the out-of-phase energy that is stored in it from the past.

I mentioned that present time was not only a point of power, but that it was/is an energy all unto itself. Often when I do healing work on myself or someone else I will use present time energy as a way of melting away that which is no longer beneficial so that the clearer more current energy can bubble up into awareness. Simply the act of “bringing something into present time” will raise the vibration and release what no longer applies.

This is something you can do yourself as well. Practice by playing with your focus.
  • Let it wander to the past, and then wander to the “future”.
  • Notice that your focus can be anywhere you decide to put it.
  • Then let it come back to the here and now; use the sounds around you to bring you back to this moment, allow the moment to flow through you.
  • Feel your clothing on your skin, the breath going in and out of your lungs.
  • Release energy down your grounding and settle into your body a little bit more.
  • Give yourself permission to fill up with “present time” energy and let it melt away anything that is no longer appropriate for you now.
  • Let this energy update anything that needs updating in your energy system (back to the computer game analogy again). This can be especially helpful for information brought forward from other times and places; information will be much more useful if it is in a format that you can use today as opposed to lifetimes ago.

Another benefit of present time; as you gather yourself up into the “now”, you have more energy available to you. Ever feel you are spread kind of thin? Ever wonder where your energy goes? Think of having a glass sitting on a table. Let this glass represent present time, your point of power. Any water in this glass represents the power you get to use to create your life and experiences with, there may be a little water or a lot. If you tend to have your energy stuck in the past (why did I say that?? Why did they do that? If only I had…) or flung out into the future (someday I will be perfect and then I will be happy…), then there is less energy available to you in the now, which is where your life actually happens. Imagine several other glasses on the table each with a little water in them. Let them represent your attention spread out into the past and the future; how much water is in them? As you ground and breathe and come into present time, it is akin to pouring more of the water into the present time glass; allowing more of your energy power and focus to be available to you. This is good news!

So what about if you don’t like what is going on in present time?

Great question, glad you asked!

You shift your reality by shifting focus, by shifting beliefs, by taking action inspired by intuition. All of these things require energy and power to work; your energy and power. The more “water in your glass” the more power behind your intention for a new future.

The more you are in present time the greater your connection to the Truth of you and the clearer your vision for what you want to create will be; the more light of you will be shining in the direction you choose to point toward. I don’t know about you, but I walk much better on a well lighted path.

Present time is a wonderful healing vibration. Play with some of the things I have outlined and see if you get some benefit from them. It’s all about finding ways to enjoy this amazing experience of being spirit in a body this lifetime. We are here (in my opinion) totally on purpose, so why not fully embrace it and find that balance where we are totally in the game and still remember how much fun it is to play as we are playing.

Blessings and Aloha ~Erika

Erika Ginnis teaches grounding (part 3 of 3) from Essential Mysteries

Here is the final in a three part series on the technique of Grounding from Chapter 2 of “Essential Mysteries: A User’s Guide for the 21st Century Mystic” (Part 3 of 3); a guided meditation for experiencing the technique.

“Allow your grounding to flow down into the earth past all the rocks and layers of the planet, past the water, deep, deep into the earth, into the heart of the Mother, until it reaches the center of the Earth.”
